Boxer follows Juan Manuel Marquez and retires from the sports
CALIFORNIA - Just a day after Juan Manuel Marquez announced his retirement, former two-division boxing champion Timothy Bradley revealed over the weekend that he is leaving the sport as well.
Bradley, 33, boasts of a 33-2-1 record with 13 knockouts and held the welterweight and featherweight belts.
Bradley fought with Manny Pacquiao thrice, beating the Filipino boxing icon via decision in 2012 but lost in two rematches.
Bradley's announcement of his retirement on Saturday came just after Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez said on Friday that he was hanging up his gloves and considers his knockout of Pacquiao in 2012 as the highlight of his career.
Marquez has a remarkable record of 56-7-1 with 40 knockouts.
Meanwhile, Bradley said in a statement that was published in full on boxingscene.com that he has to make a choice at this point in his life. "There always comes a point in life where we have to make choices that no matter how much we know the right option, it still leaves us filled with mixed emotions," he said.
"Boxing gave me roots, it kept me off the streets, it gave me confidence, it taught me how to be a man and face every challenge head on and take the good with the bad. Yes I missed holidays, birthdays, even missed hearing some of my children's first words but more than time, it took my blood, sweat and tears, all things I can never get back. Which is why turning the page for me is bittersweet. That once in a lifetime purpose to wake up everyday and give 100% is now fueled towards something else - my family. I find my strength in them, my peace and most importantly, unconditional love," he also said.
He then thanked his fans for the support.
