Actress Kris Aquino addressed critics in a two-part video posted on her Instagram page, saying she was acting on instinct to protect her family and to clarify certain issues that her detractors raised.
Kris said she was moved to react after rumors circulated that her oldest son, Joshua, impregnated a girl, while her youngest son, Bimby, is allegedly gay. She dismissed these as malicious rumours.
The actress also revealed that her chance to make a comeback on television “was taken away from me because I was told mahirap nang ma-offend ang palasyo (it would be difficult to offend the government)”.
She did not give further details about the TV project, who made the comment, or why her planned project would offend the government of President Rodrigo Duterte. “I still continue to pray for the current administration. For this government that is ruling us right now,” she said, adding that it is the “wrong time for political divisiveness” amid the pandemic.
Kris said she read a comment from a pro-Duterte blogger who allegedly misinterpreted what she said. The actress revealed she has allies in Secretary of Finance Sonny Dominguez and Secretary of Foreign Affairs Teodoro Locsin Jr. “There are friendships too deep [to be] tainted by politics,” she said.
Kris also questioned, “Who actually benefits by erasing the legacy of my parents? [Who removed] freedom of speech in the Philippines? Who jailed and killed Ninoy Aquino?” The actress also hinted that Duterte is an ally, saying that the president “started his political rise during my mom’s administration”.
She also showed photos of her meetings with Duterte. She further added that she knew who wants to seek further revenge against the Aquino family despite having her father assassinated. “That is not President Duterte because alam ko never ko syang binanatan. So para po sa mga DDS, wala tayong reason para maging magkaaway (That is not President Duterte because I know I never attacked him. So, for Diehard Duterte Supporters, there is no reason for us to be enemies)," she said. Kris said she has no affiliation with any political party, and that she is helping struggling Filipinos in her own way “without any agenda”.
