Heat wave: global cities brace for hotter days as UAE records 49°C temperature
An intense heat wave this week is expected to hit parts of the world, including US and India, as the UAE records rising temperatures of up to 49°C on Tuesday (June 7).
The hottest temperature ever recorded in the UAE was in July 2002, with mercury hitting 52.1°C. According to the weather bureau, temperatures this summer are going to get hotter.

In the US, the heat wave is expected to hit parts of Arizona, California and Nevada, including the cities of Phoenix, Las Vegas and Sacramento, with temperatures forecast to reach far above 38°C.
"It's going to be hotter than what we've seen any time this year so far," said meteorologist Chris Kuhlman from the National Weather Service.
Heat waves are the deadliest type of weather disaster in the US, accounting for nearly 150 deaths per year.
"This heat will impact everyone, not just those sensitive to heat risk," the National Weather Service in Sacramento emphasized in a tweet.
In India, New Delhi remained under the reel of a heat wave for the third consecutive week, with the weather bureau issuing an alert of severe heat wave conditions until June 9.
Many parts of the city recorded temperatures of above 46°C. Officials said no respite is likely from the situation until the end of this week, said officials.
