Kobe Bryant funeral held as family bids private farewell
DUBAI – The funeral of NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna was held in a private ceremony among family members, according to media reports on Thursday (February 13). Bryant’s wife, Vanessa, and their daughters Natalia, Bianka and Capri, as well as family and friends attended the funeral on February 7 at Pacific View Mortuary in California. "Vanessa and the family wanted a private service to mourn their loss,” Entertainment Tonight quoted a source as saying. "The ceremony was extremely hard for everyone as it's still hard for them to grasp they lost two beautiful souls," the source said. Bryant, 41, and Gianna, 13, died in a helicopter crash along with seven other people north west of Los Angeles on January 26. On Instagram, Vanessa shared a heartbreaking post saying that her “brain refuses to accept” that her husband and daughter are gone.Hundreds and thousands of fans have paid tribute to Bryant around the world. In Dubai, the Burj Khalifa lit up in a moving tribute to the NBA icon and his daughter, with their image flashed on the façade of the world’s tallest tower. The tribute was arranged by Dubai Multi Commodities Centre Executive Chairman Ahmed Bin Sulayem, a longtime fan and friend of the late NBA champion. On Sunday, Grammy Award-winning singer and Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Hudson will perform a special tribute at Sunday's NBA All-Star Game to Bryant and his daughter. The NBA announced that Hudson will open the night ahead of player introductions with the tribute.
