World’s most expensive toilet taken to space

DUBAI – The world’s most expensive toilet, a $23 million titanium toilet, has been taken to the International Space Station, according to NASA. The toilet was onboard a resupply mission that launched from the United States on Friday. the mission also carried other supplies like vegetables and scientific experiments. The new toilet, called Universal Waste Management System, weighs 45 kilograms and is 65 percent smaller than the one currently on the space station. Pre-treated urine will be fed into the system that recycles water for further use. Astronaut can drink recycled urine and sweat after these are filtered and processed. Nasa astronaut Jessica Meir said that 90 percent of all water-based liquids on the space station, including urine and sweat, are recycled. The new toilet is also female friendly, with a new shape that helps it tilt up. Funnels for urine have also been redesigned to make it easier for female astronauts to urinate and defacate. The new space toilet has an automatic air flow when the lid is lifted to help with odor control. it also has foot restraints and handholds. Toilet paper, wipes and gloves are disposed in watertight bags stored with fecal matter. These go into a canister for all solid waste, which is loaded in cargo that burns up on re-entry to Earth.
