No E-cigarette smoking allowed in offices, closed spaces

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) reminds the public of the prohibitions on smoking e-cigarettes inside the offices and closed spaces across the country. The ministry raised awareness of the dangers of consuming tobacco products including electronic cigarettes in relation to the World No Tobacco Day on May 31. It also released several prohibitions and penalizations for the following:
  • The sale of tobacco products to minors (under 18)
  • Smoking in private cars with the presence of a child under the age of 12
  • Smoking in religious houses, educational institutions (such as universities and schools), health and sports facilities
  • Automatic vending equipment and devices for tobacco distribution inside the country
  • Tobacco advertisement and promotion
The MoHAP has also collaborated with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in blocking websites with e-tobacco product advertisements and promotions. Doctors in UAE observed the possible rise of a new generation of smokers through e-cigarettes, corresponding to the World Health Organization (WHO)’s reports of a tripling rate of tobacco product use among children and teenagers in the future. Tobacco Atlas reported UAE as one of the countries with the lowest cigarette consumption rates with 438 average cigarettes consumed by an adult smoker per year. KSO/Expat Media
