DEWA warns against Dh10,000 scam prize message

DUBAI – The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has warned UAE residents against responding to a social media post that is offering a fake prize of Dh10,000. DEWA clarified that it has not sent out the social media post that is now being widely circulated on WhatsApp. The fake post asks people to answer a questionnaire for the “chance to get Dh10,000”. “Dewa would like to bring to your attention that fraudulent messages are being sent to customers asking them to pay their bills or answer some questions to win prizes. These emails are not sent from http://dewa.gov.ae domain,” DEWA said in a statement. It urged consumers to only respond to official announcements on its website, verified social media accounts or customer care center. Police in the UAE have repeatedly warned the public against engaging in unverified advertisements on social media and urged them to be cautious about scams. ICA/Expat Media
