Sharjah Police's traffic awareness campaign warns e-bike riders against improper or unlawful use
The Sharjah Police General Command, represented by the Traffic and Patrols Department, launched a traffic awareness campaign titled "Traffic Safety for Electric Bicycle Users" that lasted a month, beginning in early May, as an embodiment of Sharjah Police's vision in line with the Ministry of Interior's strategy to make roads safer.
The campaign, according to Lieutenant Colonel Muhammed Alai Al Naqbi, included education about the negative consequences of improper and illegal use of electric bicycles, as well as non-compliance by their users with traffic regulations and instructions that improve their safety and the safety of other road users.
According to the Director of Sharjah Police's Traffic and Patrols Department, one traffic accident happened as a result of improper use of an electric bicycle, and 168 electric bicycles were seized between January and April of this year.
According to Al Naqbi, Director of Sharjah Police's Traffic and Patrols Department, the campaign's goal is to educate members of the public about the importance of following traffic rules when using personal modes of transportation such as electric bicycles, as well as following the advice and instructions that ensure their safety and the safety of their lives and property.
The campaign distributed awareness designs and instructions in a variety of languages, including Arabic, English, and Urdu, via the Sharjah Police General Command's social networking sites, as well as print, audio, video, and smart media.
Al Naqbi advised electric bike riders to wear a helmet and ride within the speed limits set by the manufacturer. He also stressed the importance of riding the bike alone and not carrying heavy luggage, which can cause the scooter to become unbalanced and cause traffic accidents. KMB/Expat Media
