Abu Dhabi shuts down 7 restaurants, food outlets for violations

A total of seven restaurants and food outlets in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra region have been shut down due to public health violations, according to the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) on Monday (June 6). The closures were done since the start of 2022, with ADAFSA inspectors finding that the food outlets had unsanitary areas where food is being stored or prepared. The outlets were also infested with pests and used inappropriate equipment or tools in preparing or storing food items. In May alone, food safety inspectors shut down four restaurants in Abu Dhabi for health hazards. A restaurant in Mussafah area was also shut down for operating without a permit and for slaughtering a sheep inside the kitchen without a license. Inspectors also found meat from an unknown source in the restaurant. According to ADAFSA, the facilities may be allowed to reopen after they meet health and safety standards, including replacement of their equipment and sterilising the facility. The authority said that regular inspections are ongoing to ensure that food establishments comply with the UAE’S food safety requirements. The public is urged to report suspected violators through the Abu Dhabi Government hotline 800555. ICA/Expat Media
