Zelensky accuses Russia of genocide as Russian forces bomb children's hospital

Zelensky accused Russia of carrying out genocide after Ukrainian officials said that Russian aircraft bombed a children's hospital on Wednesday (March 9). "What kind of country is this, the Russian Federation, which is afraid of hospitals, is afraid of maternity hospitals, and destroys them?" Zelensky said in an address on television. Zelinsky calls on the West to tighten sanctions on Russia so that they "sit down at the negotiating table and end this brutal war". Zelensky further said that the bombing of the Children's hospital is proof of the "genocide" taking place in Russia. The United States has pointed out indications that Russia firing dumb bombs “greatly increases the risk of missing targets,” a senior U.S. defense official said on Wednesday. "We do have indications that the Russians are in fact dropping some dumb munitions," the anonymous official told reporters on Wednesday. The official said that the US observes that these bombings are "increasing damage to civilian infrastructure and civilian casualties." According to Russian authorities, about 1,170 civilians have been killed in Mariupol since the beginning of the Russian invasion. Ukrainian officials have been accusing Russia of 'intentionally targeting’ civilians in the two-week-old invasion of the country.
