Philippine Consulate Dubai imposes voter admission cut-off due to ‘overwhelming’ crowd

DUBAI – An “overwhelming number” of Filipino voters arrived at the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai on Wednesday (May 4), forcing the mission to impose an “early cut-off” in admission, Expatmedia.net learned. “Due to the overwhelming number of voters who arrived on Wednesday (May 4), the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai imposed an early cut-off of 5:30pm to accommodate all the voters who are in the queue,” according to the Philippine Consulate in a statement. The Philippine Consulate said all waiting areas of the consulate and the adjacent building of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office Dubai (POLO Dubai) are “fully occupied”. “The consulate requests the voters’ understanding if they may not be accommodated at this time,” according to the Consulate. Filipino voter Geraldine Bucayan Celi was one of scores of people on queue outside the consulate at around 5pm, describing the it as a "super long" queue that she said reached until the back of the compound. "But Filipinos are still very enthusiastic to exercise their right to vote," Celi said. Overseas voting for the 2022 Philippine elections continues daily in the consulate in Dubai and the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi until May 9, with polls open from 8am until 9pm, except on May 9 when polls close at 3pm. Overseas Filipinos will vote for national positions: president, vice president, senators, and party-list groups. ICA/Expat Media
