Elon Musk says purchasing Twitter is for the 'future of civilization,' not for money

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk defended his offer to buy Twitter on Thursday in an on-stage interview at the TED conference explaining that the acquisition represents nothing less than a turning point in human history. Musk stated that the deal is not about business but rather ensuring Twitter stays a trusted platform for democracy. "My strong intuitive sense is that having a public platform that is maximally trusted and broadly inclusive is extremely important to the future of civilization,” Musk said. Musk regarded that there is a lack of free speech on Twitter and suggested that Twitter open-source its algorithm to promote transparency in the content moderation choices of the company. Musk admitted that even if he bought the company, the errors would still occur. "I think everyone will still blame me for everything. If I acquire Twitter and something goes wrong, it's my fault, 100%. I think there will be quite a few errors,” he remarked. When asked if he had a backup plan if his bid to buy Twitter fell through, he said he had several ideas. However, he remained tight-lipped on the details, saying they would have to wait "until another time." BKM/ Expat Media
