Abu Dhabi airport reopens Terminal 2 following the surge of passengers

In response to increased passenger demand, routes, and airline customers, Abu Dhabi International Airport recently reopened Terminal 2. Five airlines now operate more than 50 weekly flights in Terminal 2, bringing the total number of 26 airlines operating in the airport. According to Abu Dhabi Airports, a further increase in capacity at Terminal 2 is planned for May, with the addition of 21 weekly flights. “Retail and duty-free services are also being reintroduced, offering passengers a full range of choice before their flight,” the airport operator stated. The increase in passenger numbers follows the lifting of coronavirus-related travel restrictions around the world and the reopening of markets, releasing pent-up demand for air travel. With this resurgence of passengers, Abu Dhabi International Airport handled 2.56 million passengers in the first quarter of 2022, a more than fourfold increase over the same period last year.
