UAE issues travel ban to Iran, Thailand over coronavirus
DUBAI – The UAE has issued a travel ban to Iran and Thailand following concerns of an outbreak of the new coronavirus, Covid-19, there.
According to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the travel ban is part of the UAE’s efforts to monitor and contain the spread of the virus.
As of Tuesday (February 25), more than 2,600 people have been infected by Covid-19 outside of China where 80,000 cases have been reported.
Fifteen cases have been reported in Iran, while Thailand has reported 37 cases. The UAE has reported 13 cases of coronavirus, including an elderly Iranian couple visiting the country.
The outbreak has forced the ministry to call on all UAE citizens to refrain from traveling to Iran and Thailand “until further notice”.
UAE citizens currently in these countries are requested to contact the UAE Embassy or the Ministry's call centre on 800 44444, and register on the ministry's 'Tawajudi' service.
UAE halts all Iran flights
Meanwhile, the UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority announced the suspension of all flights arriving to and departing from Iran, effective immediately.
According to the GCAA, all passenger and cargo aircraft traveling to and from Iran will be suspended for a period of one week, and could be up for extension.
