Oman's population exceeds 4.44 million

MUSCAT- Oman’s total population exceeded 4.44 million in May, which registered a 0.3 percent increase, according to the latest data published by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Expatriates numbered over 2.02 million, forming 45.5 percent of the total population.
Where can you find the biggest expatriate population in Oman? In Muscat, where there are 891,942 expats compared to 503,470 nationals. North Al Batinah is the second biggest home for the expat community with 241,142 people living there. Dhofar came third with an expatriate population of 217,874.
Muscat registered the largest population at over 1.39 million people, marking a growth of 0.3 percent over the previous month’s population.
North Al Batinah came second with a population of 719,309 while A'Dakhiliyah took the third spot with 436,458 people, the NCSI said as quoted by Oman News Agency, ONA.
North Al Batinah and A'Dakhiliyah logged a monthly population growth of 0.5 percent and 0.4 percent respectively.
Dhofar's population rose 0.9 percent to 420,836 in May 2016 while the population in Musandam increased by 0.2 percent to 42,854. Al Buraimi witnessed a population growth of 0.3 percent taking the number of people to 107,484.
The monthly population growth in South Al Batinah was 0.4 percent with 396,442 people by May end while the South A'Sharqiyah recorded a population of 293,616 marking a growth of 0.6 percent.
North A'Sharqiyah population too grew by 0.6 percent to 262,437 while A'Dhahirah and Al Wusta each posted a 0.5 percent monthly growth in its population, which reached 201,843 and 43,350 respectively in May.
However, the number of people categorized as ‘not belonging to any particular governorate’ fell 6.3 percent over the April to May period to 121,407.
