No more pre-travel PCR test for Sharjah bound

DUBAI – Passengers arriving into Sharjah from eight countries will no longer be required to undergo rapid PCR test before their flight, according to aviation authorities. Sharjah-based budget airline Air Arabia confirmed the new rule on Tuesday (February 22), which comes after similar measures were announced for Dubai-bound travelers. The new rule applies to passengers headed to Sharjah from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Kenya, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Uganda. Passengers will no longer need to undergo rapid PCR test at the airport of departure six hours before their flight. However, they have to present a negative PCR test result taken within 48 hours ahead of their flight. Test results must have QR codes. They also have to undergo another PCR test upon arrival at the Sharjah International Airport. Emiratis and children below 12 years old are exempted from the PCR test. Travelers, including returning expats, must be fully vaccinated and hold a vaccination certificate issued by the health authorities. Non-vaccinated individuals exempted from the rule include children below the age of 16, medical staff working in the UAE, education sector staff, students in UAE, Golden Visa holders, government staff, diplomats and humanitarian cases.
