Expat jailed in Dubai for selling fake luxury bags

A 26-year-old Asian expatriate has been jailed in Dubai for selling fake luxury bags in the emirate. The Dubai Criminal Court also fined the Asian man Dh5,000 for counterfeiting. Court officials did not release further details about the man's identity. The case was uncovered after the agent of a luxury bag brand found out about the imitation bags being sold in Dubai. The agent alerted Dubai Police, which launched an investigation and then raided the place where the Asian man kept the fake items. The man was arrested during the raid. Police seized 104 fake bags during the operation. During police interrogation, the Asian man confessed to his crime. Over the years, UAE authorities have stepped up efforts to clamp down on the counterfeit trade. In Dubai alone, fake goods worth Dh9.3 billion have been seized in the last five years, according to Dubai Police. This year, Dubai Customs recycled 23,000 fake items of varied international brands worth Dh1.4 million. ICA/Expat Media
