Expat achieves zero record of traffic fines for over 25 years of driving
A resident in Dubai, Zainudeen PB, has never received a traffic ticket in his 25 years of driving.
Zainudeen, the group executive director of Hotpack Packaging, came to the UAE in 1996, a few months after his brother founded the company.
"In the beginning, it was just three of us,” he claimed. “My brother, me and a driver. I would drive hundreds of kilometers every day to meet customers and convince them to buy from us. Those were the days of hustling," Zainudeen recalls the beginning of the company.
He earned his driver's license in 1997 on his third attempt, explaining that it took 1.5 years because back then they had to wait for months for a test date.
Despite the fact that the company has grown to 3,300 employees, Zainudeen's passion for driving has not wavered.
He claims that he drives roughly 3,500 kilometers every month.
"We have processing units in every emirate, including perhaps eight in Dubai." At least once a month, I drive to each of them. I realize I don't have to go to each one personally, but I want to set an example."
"I am just a stickler for the rules," Zainudeen added, referring to his driving record of zero offenses.
He explains that whenever he has a meeting to attend, he likes to arrive early.
He claimed to have never gone over the speed limit, and have never changed lanes unnecessarily in traffic.
"The most difficult part is the parking. I used to live and work around the Naif and Abu Hail areas. Finding a parking there is like winning the lottery. There were days when I had to go for a meeting, but I couldn’t attend it because I couldn’t find parking," Zainudeen added.
The Nissan Bluebird was Zainudeen's very first car in Dubai. He believes his driving style hasn't changed despite the fact that he now drives a Mercedes Maybach.
"I am ever so careful. Also, I think I have been incredibly lucky to not have been involved in any accident or even get a scratch on my car," he remarked.
He also shared that his biggest pet peeve on the roads of the UAE is those 10 percent of people who disrespect the laws of the road and endanger the lives of the remaining 90 percent who drive safely.
"I get very annoyed to see people who try to cut into lanes ahead of a long line of people. That is incredibly disrespectful," he said.
"Be patient and never lose your cool on the road," Zainuddeen advised young drivers. Sharing some tips, he added that they should avoid speeding, even though speeding will definitely save 5 or 10 minutes, but those minutes aren't worth jeopardizing their lives for. KMB/Expat Media
