UAE: Asian gang detained for running a gambling den

An Asian gang of seven suspects conducted a gambling den inside a clothes store in Dubai's Al Fahidi neighborhood, according to a Dubai Police officer. The suspects were apprehended and investigated before being sent to court, where four of them were sentenced to prison. Three were sentenced in absentia. The will be deported after serving their sentences, and fined Dh100,000. The case began in October 2021, when a police officer discovered a gambling ring run by two Asians hidden behind a clothing store. According to the police officer's account in the interrogations, while going about the Al Raffa police jurisdiction, he witnessed Asians writing numbers and exchanging money through a glass window of a clothes store, then playing on computers inside the store. The police officer went on to say that he asked the store manager to let him in because he thought he was an Asian looking to bet. After accessing the location, the police officer determined that the people inside were breaking UAE regulations, and they were detained. The den's manager admitted that he conspired with two individuals to organize gambling in exchange for Dh3,000. Another suspect admitted to receiving Dh2,000 for connecting with persons in his native country who wanted to gamble in the store owner's den and conspiring with another. KMB/Expat Media
