Dubai airport runway to close for 45 days starting May 9

DUBAI – Dubai Airports advised passengers to check their flight details as the Dubai International airport (DXB) closes its northern runway for 45 days starting on Monday (May 9). The runway will remain closed until June 22 for major refurbishment works, according to Dubai Airports. The last time a complete refurbishment work was done on the northern runway was in 2014. Dubai Airports advised passengers who are due to travel into or out of Dubai during the closure period to check with their respective airlines on the airport and terminal of arrival or departure ahead of their journeys. Passengers travelling from DWC will enjoy complimentary parking at the airport. The Roads and Transport Authority will also provide a complimentary bus service between all terminals at DXB and DWC every 30 minutes. According to Dubai Airports, flights will be accommodated on DXB’s southern runway, but a number of flights will be redirected to Dubai World Central (DWC), Dubai’s second airport. DWC will handle more than 1,000 flights per week during the rehabilitation period, with the majority of those flights being operated by flydubai, Spice Jet, Indigo and Gulf Air. To accommodate the additional passenger traffic, DWC will reopen facilities, including restaurants, cafes and retail outlets, check-in desks, customs and immigration.
