Cash aid for Filipinos in Dubai, northern emirates surpasses Dh19 million

DUBAI – Disbursement of the Philippines’ cash aid for Filipinos in Dubai and the northern emirates whose jobs were affected by the pandemic has reached more than Dh19 million, according to figures from the Philippine Overseas Labour Office in Dubai (POLO-Dubai). According to POLO Dubai, some 26,921 Filipinos in Dubai and the northern emirates have each received Dh730 as part of the Abot Kamay ang Pagtulong (DOLE AKAP) program. Of this number, 321 are Covid-19 survivors who were also given cash assistance. As of February 16, the total amount received by Filipino expats in Dubai and the northern emirates reached more than Dh19.6 million. This does not include cash given to distressed Filipinos in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Last year, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte approved the release of P56.9 billion additional funding for various government programs to combat Covid-19. Additional funding of P5.1 billion was released to the Department of Labor and Employment for the DOLE AKAP programme for displaced overseas Filipino workers. The DOLE AKAP program is a one-time cash assistance for OFWs who lost their job or part of their salary due to the economic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. The program was launched by DOLE on April 8, 2020. ICA/Expat Media
