Man fined Dh40,000 for assaulting Dubai student over dog incident

A man has been ordered to pay Dh40,000 compensation to a student whom he attacked after an incident with the latter’s pet dog in Dubai, according to a report on Thursday (June 9). The identities of the man and the student have been withheld for legal reasons. The Dubai Disputes Court heard that the man allegedly got angry at the student who was walking his dog that frightened a cat. The man reportedly followed the student, insulted him and then assaulted him. The incident was witnessed by the man’s wife and brother-in-law, who ran out of the house to stop the assault. The man reportedly continued to attack the student, ripping off his shirt, jacket and wristwatch before pushing him to the ground. In his testimony, the student told Public Prosecution that he suffered injuries from the attack, while his dog was “psychologically damaged” by the incident. He said that his dog fled during the incident and could not be found until the next day, and that the animal refused to eat or drink. In court, the man admitted that he attacked and insulted the student, but claimed that the student also insulted him by calling him a dog. ICA/Expat Media
